Job summary

NC State University in Gastonia, NC, is seeking an EFNEP Educator, Program Assistant/Associate (Youth and Adult) for a full‑time, 12‑month appointment. Travel within the county/state is required using a personal vehicle.

You will recruit, educate, and support limited-resource families in nutrition education, demonstrate healthy cooking, and collect data for reporting. The role emphasizes building partnerships, delivering approved curricula, and contributing to program growth while meeting

  • High-school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating concepts.
  • Experience teaching or working with limited-resource adults, youths, and/or nutrition education (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Travel within county, district, and state using a personal vehicle (personal vehicle required).
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the role of NCCE as an educational agency.
  • Recruit limited-resource school-aged youth and families with young children who meet federal eligibility guidelines for EFNEP.
  • Instruct eligible youth and families in nutrition education using approved curricula and teaching methods.
  • Conduct food demonstrations to adult and youth groups.
  • Facilitate the collection of required data and submit reports to the RNEA, EFNEP state office, and CED.
  • Maintain confidentiality of program information.
  • Coordinate with collaborating agencies to extend program outreach to eligible families.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with agencies and organizations serving EFNEP audiences.
  • Participate in lifelong learning and professional development by attending trainings and other opportunities designated by the RNEA, County Extension Director, District Extension Director, and/or State EFNEP office (a few may require overnight travel).
  • Attend and participate in required EFNEP meetings and trainings within the county and outside (a few may be overnight travel).
  • Enhance program visibility by communicating program impacts to local stakeholders and potential participants.
  • Promote educational opportunities beyond EFNEP within Cooperative Extension and partnering agencies to program participants.
  • Recruit, train, and utilize volunteers to assist in program marketing, data collection, and program delivery.
  • Meet established programmatic standards for performance and impact.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum requirement for employment with North Carolina Cooperative Extension: a high‑school diploma or equivalent.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating concepts.
  • Knowledge of community and social service programs for limited‑resource families.
  • Experience teaching or working with limited‑resource adults, youths, and/or nutrition education (preferred).
Required Licenses and Certifications

Valid North Carolina driver’s license and reliable personal transportation (must be maintained). Valid driver’s license required within 60 days of hire.

Other Requirements
  • Selected candidate may be required to pass a drug test prior to employment.
Salary Range

$32,562
