Job summary

Brevard County is seeking a land management technician to perform experienced land management work on conservation lands, maintaining habitats, trails, equipment and related facilities. The role requires two years of grounds and facility maintenance experience, including conservation land maintenance coursework, and a valid Florida driver’s license.

  • Carry out duties in the South Area/EEL Administrative Office and countywide travels, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Job description

Department: Parks and Recreation Department. Organizational Unit: Environmentally Endangered Lands.

Position Type: Permanent. Full Time/Part Time: Full Time.

Open Until Filled.

$17.52 to $19.27 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. South Area/EEL Administrative Office/Travels Countywide. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Performs experienced land management work on conservation lands, maintaining habitats, trails, equipment, and related property facilities and structures.

Requirements

Two (2) years of experience in grounds and facility maintenance and equipment repair, which includes six (6) months of experience with conservation land maintenance and related coursework in land management practices OR Associates Degree in Environmental Sciences or a closely related field PLUS six (6) months of experience with conservation land maintenance and related coursework in land management practices. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Experience operating heavy equipment, including mulching excavators, bulldozers, and various types of farming equipment is preferred.

Special Requirements

Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain within six (6) months of employment, a valid First Aid certification and a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from an approved agency and maintain both certifications during the term of employment. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. The applicant will be disqualified from further consideration for the position if a Level I background criminal background investigation, performed in accordance with Brevard County Administrative Order 5 (AO-5), discloses the applicant has disqualifying convictions (as defined in AO-5). In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man‑made disaster that may threaten the area, full‑time permanent employees will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
