Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Hospital's Clinical Neurophysiology Department seeks an Inpatient EEG Technician to perform EEG studies and educate staff. You will work under supervision to provide accurate recordings across ages, mentor junior technicians, and maintain high-quality patient care in a busy hospital lab.

The role emphasizes teamwork, fast-paced problem solving, and strict adherence to ACNS 10-20 protocols, with regular shifts and on-site duties in Charleston, SC.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from a CAAHEP accredited END program; ABRET registration required and maintained.
  • Preferred 1 year EEG technician work experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
  • May require irregular hours, rotating shifts and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic Routine and continuous video EEG studies using the 10-20 system.
  • Mentor and educate lower level technicians; ensure accuracy and safety.
  • Monitor inpatient vEEG/LTM to maintain uninterrupted, clean recordings.
  • Interact professionally with hospital staff, patients and families.
  • Work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced clinical setting.

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Hospital's Clinical Neurophysiology Department (CNPS) offers a wide selection of neurological diagnostic testing for neonate to adult patients. MUSC has an AANEM accredited Lab with world class technology (and attending physicians). As MUSC's neuroscience program continues to expand, we are looking for strong dedicated people to join our team with a passion to deliver the best possible healthcare for our patients. Our Clinical Neurophysiology Lab proudly comprises five accredited labs including an EMG team, IOM team, Outpatient EEG team, Inpatient EEG team, and Neurovascular team. In fact, we are one of the most accredited neurophysiology labs in the United States. Our technologists are among the most-qualified and talented available across the entire country. Job Description

The Inpatient EEG Technician performs comprehensive assessment, documentation and education under general supervision of the EEG Coordinator, Unit leader or designee to include, but not limited too: Performing basic Routine and continuous video EEG studies. Performs EEGs in accordance with the 10-20 system outlined by ACNS. Performs EEGs in accordance with the departmental guidelines, policies and procedures on patients of all ages. Provides guidance, mentoring and education to lower level technicians. Monitoring in-patient vEEG/LTM for an uninterrupted, clean recording. Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills. Interacts professionally and interpersonally with hospital staff, physicians, patients and family. Effective communication with all members of the interdisciplinary team, patient and family. Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Additional Job Description
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited program of Electroneurodiagnostic (END) technology or the equivalent and registered as an EEG Technician by ABRET required and must be maintained.
  • One year EEG Technician work experience preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • May require working irregular hours under stressful conditions, rotating shifts, and weekends.
