Job summary

The EEG Clinical Systems Lead at MUHA supports the Clinical Neurophysiology Services by ensuring high-quality EEG studies and coordinating with IS, Bio-Med and external vendors for device optimization.

This role mentors staff, manages equipment maintenance, and drives quality and efficiency across the department, ICCE, and Medical Center goals.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited END program and ABRET EEG Technician registration.
• Three years EEG tech work experience required; must be able to take call.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Record high quality EEG studies and ensure patient safety during procedures.
• Coordinate with MUSC IS, Bio-Med and external vendors for device optimization.
• Lead the EEG BIOMED/IS committee, identifying barriers and trends.
• Mentor staff, maintain biomed records, and perform repairs and preventive maintenance.

Job Description Summary

The EEG Clinical Systems Lead of the Clinical Neurophysiology Services reports to the Inpatient EEG Coordinator of the Clinical Neurophysiology Services. Under general supervision, the EEG Clinical Systems Lead records high quality studies, by means of electronic equipment, neurophysiologic potentials for the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases and conditions involving the nervous system. This position demonstrates competence and works under indirect supervision (EEG Coordinator or physician must be immediately available for assistance during all procedures). This role requires the independent and efficient performance of EEG studies and supports the Clinical Neurophysiology Services department, ICCE, and Medical Center goals. Goals include achievement of clinical and quality measures, operational efficiency, financial targets as well as population/age specific needs of the department. This role functions as a mentor and resource for staff and patients. Support activities include equipment maintenance, repair, instruction of users, education on technical barriers through different avenues and assurance of patient equipment safety. The EEG Clinical Systems Lead coordinates with MUSC IS, Bio-med, and external vendors for medical device optimization. This position collaborates with department leaders, IS, and Bio-Med to ensure successful implementation, repair and effectiveness of hardware, software and network compatibility. Leads the EEG BIOMED/IS committee identifying technical barriers and trends, investigates new practices to present their peers and serves as a preceptor for the unit.

Job Description

Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited program of Electroneurodiagnostic (END) technology or the equivalent and registered as an EEG Technician by ABRET required and must be maintained. Three years of EEG Tech work experience required. Must take call. May require working irregular hours under stressful conditions, rotating shifts, and weekends. Employee must possess considerable knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy; ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of complex therapeutic procedures; and ability to make accurate physical observations of patients. Has good knowledge of schematics and works independently on repairs, safety testing, and preventive maintenance. Maintains biomed records, writes reports, and coordinates outside repairs. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
