Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Hospital’s Clinical Neurophysiology Department seeks an EEG Technologist to record neurophysiologic potentials for diagnosis and prognosis under supervision. The role mentors staff, participates on committees, and supports ongoing education within a five-lacbed lab system.

Minimum requirements include graduation from a CAAHEP END program with ABRET EEG Technician registration, ABRET Long Term Monitoring certification, and two years of EEG tech

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited END program and ABRET EEG Technician registration is required and maintained.
  • ABRET Long Term Monitoring certification required.
  • Two years of EEG Technologist experience required.
  • Possibility of irregular hours, rotating shifts and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Record neurophysiologic potentials using electronic equipment for diagnosis and prognosis of nervous system conditions.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for staff and patients.
  • Participate on committees and precept for the unit.

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Hospital’s Clinical Neurophysiology Department (CNPS) offers a wide selection of neurological diagnostic tests, including EEG, EMG, IONM, and Neurovascular Ultrasound. MUSC is a Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center with world-class technology (and attending physicians). For our long-term EEG patients, we have a dedicated Inpatient EEG Monitoring Room, which is staffed 24/7, optimizing diagnostic quality and enabling quick-response patient care.

As MUSC’s neuroscience program continues to expand, we are looking for dedicated solid people to join our team with a passion to deliver the best possible healthcare for our patients. Our Clinical Neurophysiology Lab proudly comprises five accredited labs, including an IOM team, an Outpatient EEG team, an Inpatient EEG team, an EMG team, and a Neurovascular team. In fact, we are one of the two labs in the nation that hold the most neurophysiology lab accreditations. Our technologists are among the most qualified and talented across the country. Job Description

The Electroencephalography CLTM EEG Technologist of the Clinical Neurophysiology Services reports to the Inpatient EEG Coordinator of the Clinical Neurophysiology Services. Under general supervision, the CLTM EEG Technologist records, by means of electronic equipment, neurophysiologic potentials for the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases and conditions involving the nervous system. This position demonstrates competence and works under indirect supervision (EEG Coordinator or physician must be immediately available for assistance during all procedures). This role functions as a mentor and resource for staff and patients. The CLTM EEG Technologist participates on committees, investigates new practices to present their peers and serves a preceptor for the unit.

Minimum Training and Requirements:

  • Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited program of Electroneurodiagnostic (END) technology or the equivalent and registered as an EEG Technician by ABRET required and must be maintained.
  • Certified Long Term Monitoring Technician by ABRET required.
  • Two years of EEG Tech work experience required.
  • May require working irregular hours under stressful conditions, rotating shifts, and weekends.
  • Employee must possess considerable knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy; ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of complex therapeutic procedures; and ability to make accurate physical observations of patients.
