Job description

The Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technician Assistant supports the performance of diagnostic neurophysiology procedures that measure electrical activity of the brain to aid in the diagnosis of neurological conditions, including epilepsy, sleep disorders, and brain abnormalities. Working under the supervision of credentialed EEG Technologists, this role assists with the preparation, setup, and monitoring of patients during EEG recordings, ensuring adherence to established clinical protocols and regulatory standards. The EEG Technician Assistant helps maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot equipment to ensure accurate, high-quality test results, while promoting patient safety, comfort, and efficient workflow within the neurodiagnostic team.

Essential Function
  • Support the delivery of accurate, high-quality EEG studies by assisting with patient preparation, electrode application, and monitoring of recordings in accordance with clinical protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to reliable diagnostic outcomes by identifying, minimizing, and resolving artifacts in EEG recordings and ensuring optimal signal quality.
  • Assist in performing routine and long-term EEG monitoring procedures, supporting timely and effective neurological assessment across inpatient and outpatient settings (e.g., ICU, ED, NICU).
  • Promote patient safety, comfort, and cooperation by explaining procedures clearly and responding to patient needs throughout the testing process.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of diagnostic information by collecting patient history, relevant clinical data, and supporting thorough documentation for physician interpretation.
  • Maintain operational readiness and reliability of EEG equipment by performing calibrations, basic troubleshooting, and escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Support efficient workflow and continuity of care by coordinating with EEG technologists, physicians, and care teams during testing and monitoring activities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant testing environment by adhering to infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards. Ensure availability of necessary supplies and proper organization of work areas to support uninterrupted EEG services.
Education
  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Associates or higher.
Experience
  • Required: Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a clinical or technical setting. Ability to work independently with attention to detail, as well as under direct or indirect supervision within a team environment.
  • Preferred: 6 months experience in a healthcare setting, preferably with direct patient care (e.g., inpatient or bedside support). Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and clinical documentation practices. Working knowledge of medical terminology
License/Certification/Listing
  • Required: BLS (CPR) – American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
