Job description

Job Description
Must Have Technical/Functional Skills

The EE Component Systems Engineer / Function Owner is responsible for the end-to-end technical ownership and delivery of eCall (emergency call system which is a mandatory requirement in many international markets), Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) and other EE components in an autonomous vehicle driving system. This role is focused on defining \"what to develop/buy,\" managing the relationship between supplier (Tier 1) and OEM partner, and ensuring the final ECU and software function meets all function, performance, quality, and regulatory milestones.

The ideal candidate will act as the single point of contact for their assigned functions, bridging the gap between internal product/architecture requirements and external OEM/Tier 1 execution. They must be able to independently navigate technical ambiguity, drive project schedules, and ensure that complex systems are successfully integrated, tested, homologated, and launched.

  • 3+ years of experience in an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment as a DRE, Function Owner, or Systems Engineer.
  • Proven experience managing the full development lifecycle of an automotive ECU or complex software function from requirements to launch.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to drive cross-functional teams and external partners against strict deadlines.
  • Excellent technical documentation and communication skills, with experience in requirements management tools (e.g., Jama, DOORS, Jira).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with telematics, wireless communication (4G/5G), or in-cabin sensing systems (e.g., DMS).
  • Familiarity with global automotive homologation standards and regulatory processes (e.g., eCall certification, Euro NCAP).
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and automotive process frameworks (e.g., ASPICE).
  • Understanding of automotive communication protocols (CAN, CAN-FD, Ethernet) and diagnostic tools.

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with high levels of technical ambiguity.

Roles & Responsibilities
Function & Requirements Management
  • Independently define and coordinate internal requirements for safety and connectivity functions (e.g., eCall, DMS, … ).
  • Translate high-level system requirements into detailed functional specifications for ECU development.
  • Ensure all requirements are documented, traced, and aligned with internal stakeholders (Product, Architecture, Vehicle, HW, SW, Safety Team).
  • Manage function-specific change requests and impact assessments throughout the development lifecycle.
Supplier Management & Project Execution
  • Manage the technical relationship with Tier 1 suppliers and automotive OEM partners for ECU and function development.
  • Drive supplier progress to ensure the ECU and software deliverables meet program milestones (e.g., Alpha, Beta, SOP).
  • Lead technical reviews and project management activities to ensure the \"required function\" is properly implemented and delivered.
  • Track supplier issues to closure, ensuring no stagnation in the development or release process.
Integration, Testing & Validation
  • Coordinate system-level integration efforts for the assigned modules within the vehicle platform.
  • Develop and guide the execution of test plans to verify functional performance and reliability.
  • Partner with testing teams to review results and resolve integration defects or performance gaps.
  • OEM test cases review, progress check, and validation
  • Perform hands‑on wireless connectivity tests and execute triage for loss of connectivity issues, identifying root causes through data analysis and logs
Homologation & Launch
  • Coordinate and execute homologation plans to ensure the feature meets global regulatory standards (e.g., UNR144, 2015/758 for eCall).
  • Work with regulatory and legal teams to confirm compliance and secure necessary vehicle approvals.
  • Drive the feature through to launch, ensuring all production‑ready requirements and quality targets are met.
  • Support post‑launch fleet monitoring and triage for the owned systems.
