Job summary

Singing River Health System seeks a Contract Adjunct Educator to develop and coordinate educational programs for staff, including non-clinical training. This grant-funded, temporary role supports orientation, on-going staff development, and the Inpatient Coding Apprentice curriculum delivery and administration.

The Educator adapts hours (evenings/weekends) to meet staff needs and ensures alignment with DNV/CMS accreditation standards and SRHS initiatives while fostering community education

Qualifications

  • Two years' experience in Education or Human Resources; inpatient coding experience preferred.
  • Must complete de-escalation training by orientation and maintain it.

Position Overview

Position Classification: Contract Adjunct; Temporary; Grant-Funded

Funding Status: This position is supported by external grant funding and is contingent upon grant approval, continued funding availability, program needs, and enrollment demand.

Appointment Term: Temporary appointment for the duration of the grant-funded program period or as otherwise determined by organizational need.

The Educator enhances the performance and professional development of Singing River Health System employees. He/She develops and coordinates educational programs and materials for traditionally non-clinical areas of training. The Educator facilitates the development of SRHS departments through active participation in orientation, training, on-going staff development and evaluation for all levels of personnel served.

The Educator participates in the development of formal and informal education programs and activities in an effort to improve quality standards and outcomes as well as staff performance expectations. He/She serves as a resource and educator on new policies, procedures, equipment, and training. The Educator keeps abreast of current training requirements and facilitates the implementation of SRHS initiatives.

The Educator adjusts working hours and availability as needed or as assigned (evenings/nights/weekends) to meet the educational needs of the staff. The Educator performs utilizing the DNV/CMS accreditation standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control and the SRHS Department of Nursing Plan for the Provision of Care, Treatment and Services.

The Educator will be responsible for the comprehensive facilitation of the Inpatient Coding Apprentice program. This includes, but is not limited to, curriculum delivery, student instruction, and program administration. Furthermore, the Educator may be required to provide instructional support in other curriculum areas as determined by institutional needs. In addition to these primary responsibilities, the Educator will contribute to the success of the High School Allied Health Career Technical Education program and participate in relevant community engagement initiatives.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate Degree preferred.

License

Certifications
  • CCS: Certified Coding Specialist,
  • CPC: Certified Professional Coder,
  • CPC-H: Certified Professional Coder-Hospital.

Once certified, employee must complete all requirements (including continuing education) to maintain certification. Additional specialty certifications are a plus.

Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.

Experience

Two (2) years' experience in Education or Human Resources. Previous teaching experience or evidence of teaching ability preferred. 3-5 years inpatient coding experience preferred.

Physical Demands

Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities; subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease. Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.

Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discriminations in sound. Work requires close visual and acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data at close vision.

Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue. Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.

Mental Demands

Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision-making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.

Special Demands

Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.

Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.

Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area to provide education at the division level on various units and in formal classroom settings - with the employee providing his/her own transportation.
