Job summary

CAE Inc is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to lead the ISD process for developing instructional lessons across media, including paper, instructor-led formats, and computer-based training.

You will perform quality assessments, help produce training program materials, and ensure traceability of ISD documentation on active training programs. Domestic travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, related discipline, OR equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Minimum of three years professional experience in instructional analysis, design, development, delivery, or technical writing, and curriculum development.
  • Experience with government training curriculum is preferred.
  • Experience developing training programs, multimedia courseware, and aviation training is desired.
  • Experience with Learning Content Management Systems preferred.
  • Experience designing self-paced, interactive instructional content.
  • Previous experience in aviation training products is desired.
  • Ability to learn and break down complex, high-tech systems.

Responsibilities

  • Follow ISD processes in maintenance, development, and upgrades of C-17 TS courseware across all crew specialties.
  • Develop procedures and work methods related to ISD support.
  • Coordinate with C&D to ensure traceability of courseware updates.
  • Support instructional design across an extensive curriculum.
  • Interface with FTU pilot/loadmaster leads and SMEs for annual review and other projects.
  • Utilize Master Tasks Lists, learning objectives, and course syllabi.
  • Assist in development and review of proposal and program course materials and assessments.
  • Attend ISD interface meetings and prepare required materials or slides.

Summary

Under the direction of the ISD Manager, the Educational Technologies initiates, organizes, and follows the ISD process in the development of assigned instructional lessons presented in various media, including paper, instructor-mediated lecture formats, and computer-based training. Performs quality assessments of deliverable products. Responsible to assist with development of training programs and courseware using the ISD process and for producing training materials using program guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow ISD processes in the maintenance, development, and upgrades of C-17 TS courseware across all crew specialties
  • Develop special program–oriented procedures and work methods related to ISD support
  • Coordinate with C&D to ensure traceability of courseware updates that have been implemented and validated on the training system
  • Support processes for instructional design across an extensive curriculum
  • Coordinate with FTU pilot/loadmaster leads and associated Main Operating Base SMEs for annual review and other projects
  • Utilize/update Master Tasks Lists (MTLs), Master Training Tasks Lists (MTTL), learning objective hierarchies, training method and media reports, and CT/FTU course syllabi
  • Support the development and review of proposal and program course materials, including but not limited to: selection of appropriate instructional methods, development of instructionally sound course objectives, design and development of realistic scenarios and case studies, and design and development of valid assessment tools
  • Attend TSSC ISD related interface meetings and assist in generating any necessary materials or slides for required presentations
  • Ensure traceability is maintained on all baseline and changed ISD documentation on active training programs
  • Accomplish ISD work in accordance with company policies, processes, procedures, and work instructions
  • Conduct peer reviews to verify production in accordance with established quality standards
  • Consult with customers on performance management and instructional strategies
  • Interface with ISD Manager and TSSC Manager to confirm instructional methods are being followed
  • Employ industry standard software and format technical documents to a specific standard
  • Promotes positive morale within the courseware development team
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, related discipline, OR equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Minimum of (3) three years professional experience in instructional analysis, design, development, delivery, or technical writing, and systematic approaches to curriculum development.
  • Experience in design and development of government training curriculum is preferred.
  • Experience developing training programs, multimedia courseware, and aviation training is desired.
  • Experience with Learning Content Management Systems preferred.
  • Experience designing and creating self paced, interactive instructional content.
  • Previous experience in producing aviation related training products.
  • Ability to quickly learn, understand and breakdown complex, high-tech systems.
  • Ability to prioritize work requirements with minimal supervision.
  • Results-oriented approach to performing work.
  • Strong organizational skills and business acumen.
  • Communication Skills Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Prior courseware and/or syllabus development experience highly desired.
  • Prior experience with aviation training systems highly desired.
  • Prior database experience desired.
  • Prior experience developing web enabled lesson content desired.
  • Prior experience with SQL, Python, or R programming languages desired.

  • Demonstrate an intermediate level proficiency in Actionscript 2, 3, Standard html, html 5, Java Script.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Must be able to effectively deliver oral presentations to management and customers.
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to balance demands for competing resources to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and occasional odd shifts as required.
  • Understanding of military protocols and customs is essential.

Work Environment
  • Work is performed in a subassembly shop, final assembly labs and customer sites.
  • All areas are climate controlled however there are times when individuals will need to work outside in the elements.
  • Work in a regular office environment; communicate via personal computer, telephone and fax.
Physical Demands
  • Domestic and international travel as required.
  • Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and ladder into a simulator or airplane cockpit.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, and crawl on top of or under machinery.
  • Must be able to detect odors or hear noises, bangs, etc., or other sounds to detect problems or flaws in the functioning of simulators and its surrounding environment.
