Job summary

Air Combat Command is seeking personnel to provide specialized developmental care and instruction for children and youth in a School Age Program. The role includes supervising a classroom for ages 5–12 and ensuring safety and effective activity planning.

Qualified applicants may meet the education requirement or have equivalent combination of experience and education, per OPM standards. Knowledge of youth development and program operations is essential.

Job description

The primary purpose of this position is to provide appropriate, specialized developmental care and instruction for children and youth in the School Age Program. In addition, performs oversight and supervision for a designated classroom for ages 5-12 years old.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, for the Education and Training Technician Series, 1702 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes an extensive body of youth programs rules and procedures requiring extended training and experience to plan and perform a wide variety of interrelated youth assignments and resolve a wide range of problems. Knowledge of child/youth theory, methodology, and practices relating to physical, intellectual, social, and nutritional development to effectively interact with the youth and design and implement activity plans and specialized programs depending on the individual needs of the youth. Knowledge of Youth Programs procedures to ensure processes such as receiving youth from parents, maintaining accountability of children and to ensure established procedures for preventing, treating, and reporting all child injury, illness, and/or abuse are adhered to.

OR EDUCATION: Have successfully completed four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

• Ability to develop creative and innovative activity and special program plans.
• Ability to promote and foster effective working relationships with others and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to ensure the safety and hygiene of children and youth through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, and proper management of equipment.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE:

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
