DeSoto County Schools seeks a full-time individual to interpret for deaf or hard-of-hearing students within the educational setting, ensuring clear communication between students and teachers.

Qualifications

  • Must have High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Registered with MS Office on Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
  • Mississippi Provisional Certification, Q & A certification, or RID certification.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the educational setting, as outlined by the IEP.
  • Communicate through sign-language or speech between student and teacher.
  • Collaborate with teacher of the hearing impaired and with special education staff.
  • Adapt classroom activities to promote participation of deaf or hard of hearing students.
  • Model social interaction with hearing peers to encourage inclusion.
  • Prepare for classroom academic content.
  • Participate in IEP meetings when appropriate.
  • Adhere to the Mississippi Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all Desoto County Schools' records.
