Educational Service District 112 is seeking an Educational Interpreter for the Deaf to support deaf and hard of hearing students in the White Salmon School District. The role is 32.5 hours per week during the school year.

The interpreter will translate lectures, discussions, tests, films, and student comments in classroom and school activities, and will facilitate communication among students, parents, and staff. Regular attendance is essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Pass EIPA with min score 4.0 and EIPA written test; OR RID certification with EIPA written test.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret lectures, discussions, tests, films, assemblies and student comments in all school related settings.
  • Interpret communications between hearing, deaf and hard of hearing students, parents and staff in classroom, conferences, IEP meetings and other activities.
  • Assist staff to implement programs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Work with teachers to develop language, articulation and academic skills in school and home environments.
  • Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops and seminars.
  • Maintain regular attendance to carry out duties and responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Reporting directly to the Special Education Teacher, the Educational Interpreter for the Deaf facilitates communication and assists teachers in the classroom. The Educational Interpreter for the Deaf works independently to provide services to students who are deaf and hard of hearing within the school and home environment.

The full salary range for this position is $30.96 - $37.67. Offers are made at the beginning of the range.

Assignment/Location:

We are recruiting for an Educational Interpreter for the Deaf to serve the White Salmon School District. This position is 32.5 hrs/wk, school year schedule.

Regular attendance required:

This role relies on regular and reliable attendance to ensure consistency for our students and help support a positive, productive learning environment.

Essential Functions/Other Functions
Essential Functions:
  • Interpret lectures, discussions, tests, films, assemblies and student comments in all school related settings.
  • Interpret communications between hearing, deaf and hard of hearing students, parents and/or staff members in the classroom, at conferences, IEP meetings and other school activities.
  • Assist certificated and classified staff to implement programs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Work as a resource specialist with students who are deaf and hard of hearing and their teachers to develop language, articulation and academic skills within the school and home environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops and seminars.
  • Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 1. High school diploma or GED.
  • Must meet one of the following within one calendar year of employment:
  • a. Pass the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with a minimum score of 4.0 and the
  • EIPA written test with a passing score; OR
  • b. hold National Interpreter Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), and the EIPA
  • written test with a passing score.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
  • Experience as an interpreter in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of programs and services for individuals with disabilities.
Working Conditions/Employment Requirements
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Sufficient physical stamina and agility to perform sign language functions continuously through workday.
  • Regular attendance during scheduled work hours.
Employment Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
