Job summary

Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit in Schnecksville, PA seeks an Educational Interpreter to provide interpreting for deaf/hard of hearing students in general education classrooms. The role focuses on facilitating communication among students, teachers, and staff to ensure accessible learning environments.

The interpreter will work under the Supervisor of Special Programs and Services, using ASL, PSE/MCE forms, and spoken English to support student success with strong confidentiality and teamwork

Qualifications

• EIPA score of 3.50 or higher.
• Interpreting in Pidgin Signed English, MCE forms, and ASL at normal conversation speed.
• Voice interpreting including reading sign forms and speech reading.
• Minimum of two years’ experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides interpreting for deaf/hard of hearing students in mainstream classes.
• Collaborates with teachers to suggest effective strategies.
• Interprets lesson content for deaf/hard of hearing students.
• Provides tutoring or note-taking when interpreting isn’t needed.
• Participates in educational team meetings to discuss communication strategies.
• Facilitates communication throughout the educational day using sign language, spoken English, and accessibility knowledge.
• Interprets in social and academic settings and ensures faithful transmission of messages.
