Aiken County Public Schools is seeking an Educational Interpreter to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students across a full range of instructional settings. The role reports to the Director of Special Programs and carries 181 days of work at 8 hours per day.

Responsibilities include providing sign interpretation, adapting to students' communication profiles, and collaborating with teachers to ensure continuity of instruction while adhering to professional standards.

Qualifications

• Evidence of a high school diploma.
• National certification or Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) rating of 3.5+ is required.
• Documentation of successful completion of the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment: Written Test (EIPA: WT) is required.

Responsabilités

• Provides interpreting services between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and staff or other students in a wide range of educational settings.
• Maintains awareness of students' communication profiles and interprets accordingly to support comprehension.
• Determines optimal viewing distance, lighting and angle in collaboration with students and teachers.
• Supports as part of the instructional team; interprets directions and helps maintain continuity of instruction per IEP.
• Participates in IEP meetings to ensure appropriate interpreting coverage when needed.
• Provides tutoring as directed by the Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
• Willingly engages in ongoing professional growth and prepares for lessons by reviewing subject matter and sign vocabulary.
• Complies with RID Code of Professional Conduct and the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment guidelines.
