Job summary

Beaufort County School District is seeking an Educational Interpreter to provide interpreting services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and the education team. You will interpret spoken and signed messages and support inclusion during classes, meetings, field trips, and IEP discussions.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma with ASL fluency and knowledge of interpreting codes of conduct; experience is valued and ongoing professional development is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Minimum: high school diploma; preferred: interpreter training program.
• National certification or EIPA level 4.0+ preferred.
• Fluency in English and Sign Language; adheres to professional conduct codes.
• Current membership in interpreting organizations desirable.

Responsibilities

• Accurately interprets spoken and signed messages for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, classmates, and staff.
• Participates in educational team meetings.
• Provides interpretation for field trips and IEP meetings as needed.
• Prepares for interpreting by familiarizing with environment and vocabulary.
• Keeps current on language expansions and trends.
