Job summary

Young World Physical Education is seeking an Educational Assistant II – Instructional Assistant for Colonel Wright Elementary School in The Dalles, Oregon. This full-time position involves supporting classroom teachers and aiding students in their learning activities while maintaining a safe and engaging environment.

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of teaching methods and effective student management techniques, and have a high school diploma or GED along with experience working with children. Bilingual/Bi-Cultural applicants are encouraged to apply.

Job Purpose

To support classroom teachers and aid students in learning activities while applying instructional methods and maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of instructional materials and their uses.
• Knowledge of effective student management techniques.
• Knowledge of current office practices and procedures.
• Ability to enjoy interaction with and effectively supervise students requiring both empathetic and disciplinarian approaches.
• Ability to instruct a wide variety of students in a number of different situations.
• Ability to operate basic office and audio‑visual equipment.
• Ability to accurately perform alphabetizing, record‑keeping and filing procedures.
• Ability to abide by confidentiality rights of students and parents.
• Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
• Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
• Ability to apply school district rules, regulations, policies and practices in a fair, consistent manner.

Education / Experience

High school diploma or GED and experience working with children and/or young adolescents. Must meet the Every Student Succeeds Education Act (ESSEA) requirements: minimum 72 quarter hours of accredited college education or a successful Work Keys Test in Applied Mathematics – 4, Workplace Documents – 4, and Business Writing – 3. Assessment offered by the district.

Language Skills

• Read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
• Write simple correspondence.
• Effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to students, parents, and patrons.
• Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Other Requirements

Employment contingent upon satisfactory results of drug screening and background check.
