Job description

Application Deadline: June 17, 2026 (In‑District Bargaining Unit Members).

Projected Start Date: Approximately September 2, 2026.

Hours: 5 hours per day, 182 days per year.

Salary Range: $22.29 to $30.54 per hour.

Position Overview

The Instructional Assistant provides educational support by supervising and instructing students under the direction of licensed staff. Assistance includes planning and implementing instructional programs for students who are not in specialty programs (e.g., special education, ELL) and completing routine clerical tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Prior job‑related experience, paid or volunteer, with school‑age children.
  • Completed an associate’s degree or higher, or at least two years of college study (72 college quarter hours or more), or an equivalent rigorous academic assessment demonstrating knowledge in reading, writing, and mathematics instruction.
  • Criminal History Fingerprint clearance.
  • First Aid/CPR card.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Understanding of child development principles and instructional practices.
  • Proficiency with standard office equipment and computer applications (email, system applications, word processing, databases, spreadsheets, desktop publishing).
  • Basic clerical and arithmetic abilities.
  • Effective communication in English, both verbal and written.
  • Reading, interpreting, and applying rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Following verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Rapid learning of instructional methods and materials.
  • Self‑starter who works independently or as part of a team.
  • Planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Interacting with diverse age groups and cultural backgrounds.
Essential Job Functions
  • Works under the guidance of a licensed teacher, receiving assistance, consultation, and monitoring.
  • Collaborates with teachers in assessment, curriculum support, student interaction, safety, and social development.
  • Provides instructional support and tutoring in large groups, small groups, and one‑to‑one settings.
  • Performs record‑keeping and basic clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying, maintaining student files).
  • Confer with teacher(s) to provide feedback on student performance.
  • Supports students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults.
  • Promotes student safety through district guidelines.
  • Monitors classroom and playground activities to ensure a safe environment.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies, calls for help, and offers assistance until help arrives.
  • Evaluates situations and directs appropriate personnel for resolution.
Other Job Functions
  • Cross‑trains in various school functions and assists other personnel as required.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, materials, and student records.
  • Administers first aid and medical assistance for ill or injured children.
  • Co‑confers with teacher, parent, or agency personnel to evaluate student progress and implement objectives.
  • Participates in meetings to share and improve skills and knowledge.
  • Assists with transportation needs of students (e.g., supervising bus travel, loading/unloading).
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to:
    • sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods;
    • talk and hear conversations in a potentially noisy environment;
    • use precise control of fingers and hand movement (including repetitive keyboarding);
    • reach for and handle objects;
    • use close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjust focus as needed;
    • focus on a computer screen;
    • bend, stoop, kneel, lift, or move up to 40 pounds occasionally.
