Job summary

Coloma Community Schools is seeking an Educational ASL Interpreter to provide classroom interpretation and support for Deaf and hearing students. The role involves interpreting lectures and ensuring continued access to instruction in an educational setting.

The interpreter will work as part of the educational team, assisting in IEP processes, collaborating with teachers, and pursuing ongoing certification to maintain required credentials.

Qualifications

• Degree of coursework in an educationally related field is required.
• BA degree preferred and/or graduate of an interpreter training program.

Responsibilities

• Interpret lectures, lessons, and any information presented to students.
• Support and instruct DHH students in acquiring ASL as a first language.
• Provide sign-to-voice interpretation for students, teachers, service providers and peers.
• Use technology to organize, communicate, and develop accommodations for students.
• Prepare for interpreted class time by reviewing books and materials.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to IEPs and student evaluations.
• Collaborate with teachers to maintain classroom discipline and implement behavioral plans.
• Provide input and feedback to supervising teacher and follow IEP recommendations.
• Pursue ongoing interpreter certification and professional development.
