Job summary

Ponca City Schools District in Ponca City, Oklahoma is seeking an American Sign Language interpreter to support deaf students in the classroom. The position reports to the Assigned Teacher, Building Principal, and Director of Special Services with a starting date of immediately.

Requirements include a combination of degrees or college credit, an interpreter training program, and RID/NAD/QAST/EIPA/ESSE certification or equivalent, plus a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent, plus college credits and paraprofessional test requirements.
• Interpreter training program and higher education credentials required.
• Certification or credential in Deaf education interpreting (RID, NAD, QAST, EIPA, or ESSE) is required.

Responsibilities

• Interpret for hearing-impaired students in classrooms, assemblies, field trips, and labs.
• Voices sign language for hearing individuals and coordinate with teachers.
• Provide tutoring when possible and attend Parent-Teacher conferences and IEP meetings.
• Act as liaison between regular classroom staff and deaf education teacher.
