Job summary

Gwinnett Technical College is seeking a part-time Educational Aide - Math Tutor to assist students with math concepts and study skills at the Lawrenceville Campus. The role reports to the Developmental Studies Department and is non-benefited and non-exempt under FLSA.

Responsibilities include tutoring, basic lab duties, and keeping records. May work up to 19 hours per week depending on needs and budget.

Qualifications

  • Completion of at least 6 credit hours of college-level math courses.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Ability to listen and focus students’ attention.
  • Ability to explain complex math concepts and coach study skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse student backgrounds.

Job Description

This job is a part-time, non-benefited, FLSA non-exempt position in the Developmental Studies Department that reports to the Coordinator of Academic Support Labs. Working primarily at the Lawrenceville Campus.

Schedule

May work up to 19 hours a week depending on business needs and budget.

Minimum Qualifications (Job Code H1001)
  • Successful completion of at least 6 credit hours of college-level math courses.
  • Interview and testing for subject competence are required.
  • Ability to listen to students and focus their attention.
  • Ability to explain complex math concepts.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Ability to form good working relationships with peers and students.
  • Ability to work with diverse student backgrounds.
  • Ability to coach study skills and behavior toward successful course completion.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and previous college-level tutoring experience and successful completion of at least 6 credit hours of college-level math courses with 3.0 or higher.

Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, Aid students in understanding math concepts introduced to them in the courses offered at Gwinnett Technical College.

Job Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains records/files relating to the program’s mission (daily sign in logs, if necessary). Operates computers, copiers, and other office equipment; performs routine user preventive maintenance on office equipment. Initiates, composes and accurately types correspondence and administrative documents according to established guidelines. (5)
  • Works when scheduled; begins and ends work as expected. (20)
  • Performs other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs, philosophy, and purpose of Gwinnett Technical College. (5)
