Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Staffing Specialist to manage staffing transactions, recruit, handle transfers, and liaise with union representatives for over 2,200 staff. This full-time, exempt role is salary-based with a focus on policy, payroll, and operational staffing support.

Responsibilities include conducting interviews, reviewing resumes, and coordinating with campus leaders; you will respond to inquiries and support staff development and onboarding efforts.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of progressive HR experience including handling confidential information.
• Experience with MS Office and Google Suite is required.
• Experience with HRIS systems is preferred (e.g., PeopleSoft, Taleo, Oracle, Kronos).
• Experience in a union environment is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication and professional conduct.

Responsibilities

• Execute the discipline and grievance process and oversee hearings and investigations.
• Assist with hiring: review resumes, schedule interviews, conduct phone screens, process paperwork.
• Collaborate across all organizational levels in a high-volume environment.
• Support training during professional development days and new hire orientation.
• Respond to inquiries related to policies, payroll, and employment matters.
• Address staffing concerns at sites, verify hours, and approve overtime.
• Conduct on-site school visits to review staffing models.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
