Job summary

Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium seeks a Group & Family Programs Supervisor to lead the development and delivery of group and family education experiences, including camps, overnights, and scout programs. Under general direction, you will supervise staff, manage calendars, and coordinate resources and training.

This full-time on-site role requires strong communication, program evaluation, and collaboration with Conservation/Education teams, with willingness to work weekends and evenings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, biology or related field preferred.
• 2-3 years’ experience with formal/informal education programs strongly preferred.
• Prior experience in zoos, aquariums, museums, interpretation, or related field welcomed.
• Previous experience coordinating camps, tours, and other fee-based programs preferred.
• Experience supervising and/or working with volunteers welcomed.
• Knowledge of conservation/biological/environmental teaching programs and interpretation welcomed.
• Knowledge of classroom management techniques and skills using teaching aids, including animal, biofacts, artifacts, and library resources preferred.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and audio-visual equipment, required.
• Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Can move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
• Must be willing to become CPR/First-Aid certified.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overnight/evening hours, in all weather extremes.
• Must pass a background and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operational aspects of group programs including camps and family programs.
• Coordinate scheduling, evaluation, and supervision of program execution.
• Lead programs when necessary and manage program staff.
• Purchase and organize program supplies and materials.
• Oversee staffing, training, scheduling, evaluation, and administration of associated programs.
• Establish and manage the annual program calendar.
• Compile and report on program participation and impact.
• Assist with development and coordination of marketing efforts for programs.
