Job summary

Iliad seeks an education platform lead to build our online platform for Iliad Intensive materials, serving 40+ students monthly in-person cohorts and worldwide learners. You will shape the user experience and ensure accessibility for both online and in-person participants.

You will collaborate with part-time content creators and teachers, write and teach material, and implement features for sign-up, progress tracking, and a cohesive visual design across modules.

Salary: $80,000 - $130,000 depending on experience and location

About Iliad

Iliad is a nonprofit dedicated to advancing foundational AI alignment research. We run the Iliad Intensive, the Iliad Fellowship, and a range of conferences that bring together researchers working on the hardest problems in AI safety. We also incubate research organizations and an academic journal, and have an internal research team. We're a small and quickly growing team.

About The Role

As the education platform lead, you will be responsible for developing our online platform, currently under construction, that hosts the teaching materials of the Iliad Intensive, a course delivered to more than 40 promising students per monthly in-person iteration. We want the materials to develop into an accessible online resource that facilitates both use by people all across the world and an enhanced teaching experience for the in-person cohorts.

Your responsibilities include:

• Web development of the platform


• A unification of the look and feel of all modules to ensure a coherent experience


• Implementation of various functions that aid self-study, like sign-up and progress tracking


• Close collaboration with a rotating group of part-time content creators to elicit materials that are up to the standards of the platform


• Close collaboration with a rotating group of part-time teachers to ensure the platform serves as a functional part of the in-person classes


• Writing and teaching of your own materials

As Iliad is growing quickly, your role may adapt to changing needs of our program and Iliad as a whole.

What We’re Looking For

At a minimum, we are looking for someone with:

• A demonstrated and strong sense of design and pedagogy


• Mathematical maturity; for example, a university degree in a theoretical subject like mathematics, physics, or theoretical computer science.


• Deep care for the effective learning of both in-person and online students


• Ability to effectively coordinate with other staff, including writers, to reach our goals

Our ideal candidate also comes with the following knowledge and skills:

• The necessary coding skills to develop the platform


• Knowledge of the AI alignment field at roughly the level of the Iliad Intensive for at least some of its modules
