Job description

Education Non‑Tenure Track Faculty (Applicant Pool)

Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non‑tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding. Applications will be accepted on a continual basis and will continue until the position(s) are filled. Applicants are retained in the hiring pool for up to two years. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching on‑campus or online courses
  • Advising, evaluating and assisting students
  • Participate in professional development activities and departmental meetings
  • Contribute to curriculum development and course assessment
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Minimum master’s degree but terminal degree preferred in an appropriate field with an academic background commensurate with teaching one or more of the specialty areas listed.
  • Knowledge of college student development and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and support their academic success
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Academic or professional experience in higher education teaching
  • Experience teaching interdisciplinary courses
  • Experience or training in online or blended learning environments

Union Status

Positions at 0.5 FTE or more are represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). Those positions may pay union dues. Positions below 0.5 FTE are not represented by the Union and are not required to pay dues. Union affiliation may change if FTE changes during employment. Exemptions apply to faculty who have completed a PEI exam or who work in Extension.
