Job summary

Damar Services, Inc. is seeking Education Mentors to support students in the public-school system. This role focuses on para-professional tasks to aid in the development of daily living, self-help, and social skills for individuals served by Damar.

You will participate in programs designed to aid habilitation and education goals, under supervision and within a mission-driven team that values safety and supportive care.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 18
• High school diploma or GED required
• Valid Indiana driver’s license and acceptable driving record for positions requiring driving
• No felonies, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal convictions
• Successfully complete a pre-employment physical
• Pass background screening requirements

Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor clients to ensure punctual attendance and safety before school starts
• Respond to and manage crisis situations using verbal intervention or physical management techniques
• Support habilitation, training, and treatments for clients
• Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans and behavior management plans to promote positive social behavior
• Participate in programs that promote development of daily living, self-help, and social skills

Remarkable Ways You Will Be Making a Difference

• Ensures client is punctual to class by meeting client at designated area and time before school starts
• Remains awake and engaged at all times – competently supervising and monitoring the clients. Never leaving clients unattended unless permitted for periods of time based on a client’s Individual Education Plan
• Effectively responds to and manages crisis situations, which may include client physical aggression, utilizing prescribed verbal intervention or physical management techniques
• Participates in programs designed to aid in the habilitation, training and treatments of clients
• Consistently implements Individual Education Plan and behavior management plans to reduce client’s maladaptive behaviors, promote appropriate social behaviors and maximize human potential of each client served

What You Need To Be Considered

• Minimum age of 18 per licensure requirements
• Be able to provide formal proof of a high school diploma or GED
• Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving)
• Be clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal convictions
• Successfully complete a pre-employment physical
• Favorably meet and maintain Damar’s background screening
