Job summary

Damar Services, LLC is seeking Education Mentors to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the public-school system. This role focuses on daily living skills, self-help, and social development within a mission-driven, not-for-profit environment.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ and able to provide proof of high school diploma or GED.
• Valid Indiana driver's license and a driving record eligible for Damar's insurance.
• No felony convictions or substantiated charges that would disqualify employment.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and background screening.

Responsibilities

• Ensure clients are punctual to class by meeting them at the designated area and time before school starts.
• Supervise and monitor clients at all times, never leaving them unattended unless allowed by an Individual Education Plan.
• Respond to and manage crisis situations using verbal intervention or physical management techniques as prescribed.
• Participate in programs to aid habilitation, training, and treatment of clients.
• Implement Individual Education Plans and behavior plans to reduce maladaptive behaviors and promote social skills.

Remarkable ways you will be making a difference:

• Ensures client is punctual to class by meeting client at designated area and time before school starts
• Remains awake and engaged at all times – competently supervising and monitoring the clients. Never leaving clients unattended unless permitted for periods of time based on a client’s Individual Education Plan
• Effectively responds to and manages crisis situations, which may include client physical aggression, utilizing prescribed verbal intervention or physical management techniques
• Participates in programs designed to aid in the habilitation, training and treatments of clients
• Consistently implements Individual Education Plan and behavior management plans to reduce client’s maladaptive behaviors, promote appropriate social behaviors and maximize human potential of each client served

What you need to be considered:

• Minimum age of 18 per licensure requirements
• Be able to provide formal proof of a high school diploma or GED
• Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving)
• Be clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal convictions
• Successfully complete a pre-employment physical
• Favorably meet and maintain Damar’s background screening
