Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco in San Francisco, CA, seeks an Education Director to lead all academic programs for youth ages 6–18. You will oversee the Learning Center, manage staff and volunteers, and build partnerships with local schools to advance educational outcomes.

This full-time, in-person role requires a Bachelor’s in education, 2+ years of teaching, strong classroom management, and the ability to drive curriculum design and program assessment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum 2 years of classroom teaching experience in traditional or non-traditional settings.
• Strong classroom management, behavior intervention, and discipline skills.
• Experience in curriculum development and working with school systems/educational advocacy.
• Experience serving youth from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds (grades 1st–12th).
• Excellent oral, written, and organizational communication skills.
• Valid Class B driver's license (or ability to obtain within 90 days) to transport youth in BGCSF vehicles.
• Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days).

Responsibilities

• Education Department Leadership & Programming: Plan, organize, and execute engaging educational programs (homework help, tutoring, literacy, STEM, mentoring).
• Serve as an academic resource for staff and members, promoting creativity and learning.
• Direct and supervise Learning Center activities, staff, and tutors.
• Establish partnerships with local schools/organizations to support member success.
• Develop outreach strategies to drive participation and support families.
• Inspire members to complete high school and explore college/career pathways.
• Day-to-Day Operations & Administrative Support: Generate and submit daily reports; attend meetings; assist with fundraising and events.
• Maintain BGCSF values in professional conduct.

What You’ll Do

Under the direct supervision of the Clubhouse Director, the Education Director provides overall leadership, management, and direction for all academic programs and initiatives serving youth ages 6–18. This role oversees the Learning Center, manages department staff and volunteers, builds partnerships with local schools and community organizations, and ensures every Club member engages in meaningful educational activities designed to promote academic success, high school completion, and post-secondary planning.

  • Plan, organize, and execute engaging, age-appropriate educational programs, including homework help, tutoring, literacy, STEM, and academic mentoring.
  • Serve as an academic resource for staff and members, creating an environment that promotes creativity, exploration, and learning.
  • Direct and supervise all Learning Center activities, part-time department staff, and paid or volunteer tutors.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with local elementary schools and educational organizations (literacy, STEM, tutoring partners) to support member success and streamline communication.
  • Develop outreach strategies to drive member participation in Learning Center activities and support families through key educational transitions.
  • Inspire members to complete high school and explore college and career pathways.
• Day-to-Day Operations & Administrative Support
  
  • Generate and submit daily statistical and attendance reports to Clubhouse leadership.
  • Attend required organizational meetings, conferences, and training sessions.
  • Assist with Clubhouse fundraising projects and Club-wide special events.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and standard reflective of BGCSF values.

What You Bring

Required

• Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university

• Strong computer proficiency (Windows, Microsoft Office, database systems, and record management)

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
• Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively.
• Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.

Compensation

The estimated wage range for this role is $28.00 – $31.00 per hour. Final compensation is determined based on a range of factors, including skill set, experience, training, certifications, and organizational needs. Candidates may be hired at the entry, mid, or top level of the range depending on qualifications and position requirements.

Pre-Employment Requirements

As part of the hiring process, BGCSF requires candidates to complete LiveScan fingerprinting, a background check, and a tuberculosis (TB) evaluation or test.
