Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco is seeking a Program Leader for School-Based Clubs to supervise and mentor youth ages 6–18 after school, delivering engaging activities and lessons in a safe environment.

You will design age-appropriate curricula, lead small groups of about 10 youths, and collaborate with a team to meet program goals. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

What You’ll Do

A Program Leader at a School-Based Club plays a fundamental role in shaping youth through direct group facilitation, mentoring, and lesson delivery. Rooted in strong relationships with youth, faculty, and families, this role manages groups of approximately 10 youth ages 6–18, leading daily after-school activities while establishing standards of mutual respect, safety, and engagement.

  • Provide Supervision & Safety — Ensure a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for all youth participants.
  • Facilitate Programs & Activities — Create and lead engaging after-school programs and activities for a group of approximately 10 youth.
  • Develop Lesson Plans — Design age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that promote personal growth, educational achievement, and character development.
  • Serve as a Mentor — Act as a positive role model and mentor to young participants, fostering their self-esteem and personal development.
  • Cultivate Club Culture — Establish standards and set expectations grounded in mutual respect between staff and the community served.
  • Collaborate with Team Members — Partner with junior-level colleagues to ensure program goals are met and to share best practices.
What You Bring
Required
  • 2+ years of youth development experience working with youth ages 6–18 years old in a youth development setting
  • Demonstrated ability to create strong relationships and curriculum with youth
  • Strong positive disciplinary skills with the ability to manage youth behaviors and maintain high expectations
  • Proven communication, organizational, and self-starter abilities
  • Strong ability to create and follow systems and procedures in a fast-paced environment with continual distractions
Preferred
  • Education or coursework in Early Childhood Development, Education, or related fields
  • Proven leadership or mentorship experience
  • Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification (or willing to obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • Bilingual candidates are highly encouraged to apply
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate a 10-passenger vehicle
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively.
  • Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.

Compensation

The wage range for this position is $24.00–$25.00 per hour. Final compensation is determined based on a range of factors, including skill set, experience, training, certifications, and organizational needs. Candidates may be hired at the entry, mid, or senior level of the range depending on qualifications and position requirements.

Pre-Employment Requirements

As part of the hiring process, BGCSF requires candidates to complete LiveScan fingerprinting, a background check, and a tuberculosis (TB) evaluation or test.
