Job summary

NYC Public Schools, Office of Policy and Evaluation, is seeking a Research & Data Analyst to conduct rigorous analyses and build interactive tools that help educators, administrators, and communities improve student outcomes across 1,600 schools.

You will work with policy analysts, UX designers, project coordinators, and web developers to shape citywide accountability policies and support equity in education.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master in physical, biological, environmental, or social science with required experience.
• Equivalent combination allowed with Master’s plus two years of relevant work.
• Two years as City Research Scientist I can substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage quantitative analyses of confidential student data using descriptive stats and advanced models.
• Conduct literature reviews, field studies, and data analyses to inform policies.
• Advise Director on outcomes and strategy for evaluation of student and school performance.
• Develop administrative studies to test predictions and interventions citywide.
• Create reports, charts, graphs, and visualizations to illustrate results.
• Evaluate principal performance under the ESSA framework and MOSL/MOLP ratings.
• Support new metrics and web tools to evaluate school and student outcomes.
• Summarize internal research and present findings to stakeholders.
• Train staff on ESSA and local accountability policies as needed.
• Collaborate to improve efficiency and ensure data quality; act as project owner.
