Description
Position Summary
The Education Coordinator supports the planning, delivery, and quality of education programming for young people ages 14 to 24 in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and Work, Learn and Grow (WLG). This full time role coordinates facilitators, curriculum, school partnerships, student engagement, and required program documentation throughout the year. The coordinator also works with the College Access team to provide meaningful support with postsecondary planning, applications, financial aid, family engagement, and alumni follow up.
Youth Workforce Education and Program Coordination
- Help design, update, deliver, and evaluate work readiness, college readiness, and career exploration curricula for SYEP and WLG participants.
- Facilitate lessons and workshops, model positive youth development practices, and adapt activities to participants’ ages and learning needs.
- Coordinate workshop schedules, orientations, trips, and related activities; accompany participants and serve as a chaperone when needed.
- Recruit, onboard, schedule, and provide day to day guidance to facilitators in partnership with the Education Manager; observe sessions and offer feedback to strengthen instruction.
- Monitor facilitator schedules and hours, participant attendance and enrollment, classroom experience, and program quality; identify concerns and coordinate follow up.
- Maintain accurate records in internal systems and required external databases, including DYCD Connect, and support timely reports, documentation, and audit readiness.
- Build and maintain relationships with school sites, families, and community partners; communicate participant progress and coordinate solutions with relevant staff.
- Assist the Education Manager with seasonal staff training, curriculum improvements, and implementation of SYEP and WLG requirements.
College Access and Postsecondary Support
- Partner with College Access staff to plan and facilitate workshops on college options, admissions steps, financial aid, scholarships, and the transition after high school.
- Meet with students, as assigned, to help develop and update individualized postsecondary plans, identify deadlines, and follow through on next steps.
- Provide hands on support with college and scholarship applications, essays, document collection, and financial aid forms, coordinating specialized questions with College Access staff.
- Track student milestones, applications, acceptances, financial aid progress, and follow up needs in shared systems; flag students who need additional support.
- Support family engagement through information sessions, individual follow up, and clear communication about college pathways and costs.
- Help coordinate campus visits, career exposure opportunities, college events, and referrals that connect students to education and employment pathways.
- Assist with alumni check ins and referrals to college, career, and community resources; document engagement and emerging needs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience facilitating youth education, work readiness, or college and career readiness activities, including strong classroom management skills.
- Experience coordinating staff or program activities and working with schools, families, or community partners preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills, with attention to documentation and deadlines.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and participant tracking systems; familiarity with DYCD or DOE systems is a plus.
- Commitment to positive youth development and the ability to work collaboratively with young people and colleagues.
- Bilingual English and Spanish skills strongly preferred.
