  • Eight years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services.
  • Six years of full-time work plus five years of education or administrative services experience.
  • Bachelor's degree plus five years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services.
  • An advanced degree plus four years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services.

Responsibilities

  • Approves budgetary reports, records, and activities.
  • Testifies before state and national legislative committees and hearings.
  • Advises the division director on issues related to division programs and progress.
  • Make recommendations to the division director on various matters.
  • Researches educational issues, laws, and BESE policies.
  • Represents the division director on key departmental committees.
  • Coordinates state and federal educational programs.
  • Develops programmatic policy directives and procedural guidelines.
  • Directs administration of major elements of the state's reform model.
  • Coordinates design, development, and piloting of reform programs and research projects.

Job Focus Area

The Education Consultant 4 is located within the Office of School Choice and reports to the unclassified Executive Director. This position is responsible for leading the administration of the state’s educational savings account (ESA) program in collaboration with other Divisions within the LDOE, external partners, and any applicable third-party program manager(s). This position serves as the primary point of contact in managing the day-to-day operations of the ESA program for participating families, program applicants, service providers, legislators, LDOE staff, State Board of Education (BESE) members, and any other applicable partners. This position serves as a program administration expert with a deep commitment to the vision and priority goals of the Office of School Choice. This includes being able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, being a quick learner, and having strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

Applicants with the following skills and experience are encouraged to apply:

Experience coordinating work between multiple stakeholders and strong attention to detail. Also have experience working or communicating with elected officials and familiarity with a variety of K-12educational options for children.

Eight years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR

Six years of full-time work experience plus five years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR

A bachelor's degree plus five years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR

An advanced degree plus four years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services.

Job Duties:
  • Approves budgetary reports, records, and activities

  • Advises the unclassified division director of specific issues related to division programs and the progress of programs
  • Make recommendations to the division director on various matters
  • Researches educational issues, federal and state laws, and state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE)policies
  • Represents the division director on key departmental committees
  • Coordinates state and federal educational programs
  • Develops and recommends to the division director programmatic policy directives and procedural guidelines
  • Directs the administration on implementation of major elements of the state's reform model
  • Coordinates the design, development, and piloting of education reform programs and research projects
Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. The person hired for this position is expected to regularly report to the Baton Rouge office. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment, if selected.

Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.

Work Schedule: Work hours are Monday - Friday. Work hours will be determined. Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Note regarding the advertised pay range: The Education Consultant 4 position has a special entrance rate (SER) of $31.25 hourly,$2,500 biweekly that is above the minimum hire rate for these positions. The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make over their career andnot the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
