Job summary

The LSU AgCenter's Bossier Parish Extension Office in Benton, LA seeks a Nutrition Educator 1 to educate limited-resource youth and families in nutrition, health, and related programs. This grant-funded, probationary appointment requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and basic computer and communication skills.

The Bossier Parish Extension Office is hiring a Nutrition Educator 1 to help educate, train, and engage the community on nutritional health and well-being. Our educational efforts span nutrition and health, food safety, backyard gardening, disaster preparedness, storm recovery, youth development, managing insects and natural threats, economic development, resource conservation and so much more. The LSU AgCenter provides individuals, families, businesses, schools, industries and local governments with valuable information aimed at improving economic conditions, general wellness and quality of life. Our faculty members across the state are actively engaged in research that creates solutions for the many aspects of agriculture while serving all residents of Louisiana. Job Duties

The Nutrition Educator position provides nutrition and parenting education to limited-resource youth and families in a variety of settings within their assigned areas/parish. The educator should understand and connect to community resources through collaborations with community agencies and programs for recruiting and assisting program participants. The individual is responsible for conducting educational outreach focusing on state and federal program priorities to designated target audiences.

Position-Specific Details
  • Additional Job Information: Knowledge of the community to include living within the assigned parish (currently or previously) is required; Recruit and enroll limited resource school-aged youth and adults who meet the federal eligibility guidelines to participate in EFNEP; Will teach and lead nutrition education classes and activities in the community to target audiences; Will establish and maintain partnerships to extend EFNEP outreach with agencies and organizations that serve eligible audiences; High school diploma or equivalent is required; Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and insured automobile; Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills and effective verbal, written, and listening skills; Must be able to transport supplies and equipment (up to 30 lbs.); Will travel daily within parish(s) assigned and occasional out of parish for professional development and training; May work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends for nutrition education classes or participate in community events promoting health and nutrition.

  • Upon successful score of the Nutrition Educator Exam, eligible for promotion to Nutrition Educator 2.
  • This is a grant funded position.
  • Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
  • Location: Bossier Parish Extension Office, Benton, La.
  • This position is not eligible for remote employment.
