Job summary

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) is recruiting for a Budget Officer II to join the Office of Budget and Planning. This full-time role supports budget preparation, monitoring of federal grants, and coordination with Bureau Directors and superintendents in budget-related matters.

The successful candidate will manage departmental budgets, ensure compliance with accounting principles, and assist with inventory and office operations.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of MAGIC System or Accounting System.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with various stakeholders.
• Effective communication skills both written and oral.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and complete assignments on time.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and mobile applications.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing budgets for MDE and managing department budgets.
• Monitor federal and special grant awards and compliance.
• Provide budget-related support to Bureau Directors and superintendents.
• Maintain inventory of office supplies and equipment.
• Handle special projects as assigned.
