The Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is the largest and most diverse executive agency in state government. It employs about 3,000 people, about two-thirds of whom are located outside of Helena. The agency administers hundreds of programs. This position serves as a vital brand steward and technical lead within the communications team, ensuring all external materials are professional, factual and aligned with the Department’s vision. Working in close coordination with leadership, this role helps establish a “single source of truth” for agency branding and improves the clarity of public-facing communications. As a collaborative partner in the Communications Office (CO), the Editorial Standards Coordinator provides quality oversight, operations support, and staff guidance to enhance the Department’s strategic narrative management and strengthen agency-wide editorial standards, document quality, and publishing consistency.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and concisely, edit carefully, tailor content to audience needs, and maintain keen commitment to accuracy.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously without jeopardizing quality, while often working under tight deadlines.
Experience editing in a government, public health, health care, legal or other highly regulated environment is preferred.
Must be proficient at making and having clear understanding of the best practices to ensure document posted to the agency website are 508 Compliant.
Experience configuring AI writing and editing tools is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field.
2-4 years of work experience in a communication or related writing-intensive field.
2-4 years of direct editorial experience.
Must have extensive experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
This position may be eligible for partial teleworkwithin the state of Montana.Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
