Relentless in our work, we enhance lives through action, education, and accelerating change.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Editorial & Program Manager plays a critical role in the daily operations of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases(AJKD), a leading peer-reviewed journal in nephrology. This position supports the editorial decision-making process, facilitates communications with authors and editors, and manages several key initiatives including the AJKD Blog, NephMadness, and the Editorial Internship Program. The role also involves manuscript processing, content development coordination, and procurement responsibilities essential to the journal’s success.

  • Serve as staff lead for weekly editorial meetings. Prepare agendas, host Zoom meetings, process editorial decisions, assign specialty reviewers, and coordinate with 15+ editors to ensure timely decisions and follow-ups.
  • Coordinate revised manuscript submissions: communicate with authors, ensure compliance with journal policies and formatting, assign to editors and reviewers, and track progress to meet content pipeline goals.
  • Maintain pipeline for Accompanying Editorials: forecast needs, identify authors, extend invitations, send reminders, and support authors with formatting and policy questions.
  • Work with the Associate Managing Editor to draft detailed decision letters for revised manuscript invitations and accepted manuscripts that synthesize editor's comments, peer reviewer feedback, and journal policy/style requirements, communicating directly with editors and authors as necessary.
  • Oversee the AJKD Blog, monitoring and reporting usage statistics and promotion strategies.
  • Serve as staff lead for the annual NephMadness educational initiative: supporting the NephMadness Executive Team, region experts and writers, commentary writers, the visual abstract team, the Blue Ribbon Panel, and AJKD editors, overseeing the creation of content and resources for the blog, social media, podcasts, and TourneyTopia, and coordinating the accompanying CME program.
  • Manage the Editorial Internship Program, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, mentoring, and program content.
  • Plan and schedule biannual calls for Core Curriculum planning: update citation and download metrics, provide status update for confirmed invitations, organize voting for new topics.
  • Collaborate with NKF’s Marketing and Communications team to promote journal content through weekly newsletters.
  • Order promotional items, service subscriptions, and reproduction permissions for the journal.
  • Support special projects as requested by the Managing Editor, such as supplements, visual abstract edits, or vacation coverage.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
