Job summary

National Kidney Foundation is seeking a Development Manager to support fundraising growth, community engagement, and peer-to-peer fundraising across the CA, NV, OR, WA market, with a primary focus on Southern California and the regional Kidney Walk program.

You will develop and steward corporate and community partnerships, support peer-to-peer fundraising growth, engage volunteers and community leaders, and drive revenue through events, sponsorships, and donor engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred and 2+ years of non-profit fundraising experience preferred
  • Proven success in fundraising, non-profit leadership, and event management
  • Demonstrated track record in account management and building corporate partnerships that exceed revenue targets
  • Knowledge of product marketing/sales concepts
  • Outcome-driven mindset with ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in computer-based information systems
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Ability to travel throughout Southern California and the market

Responsibilities

  • Develop and steward a portfolio of sponsors, community partners, event teams, volunteer leaders, and individual supporters to advance fundraising goals and mission impact
  • Drive growth of the regional Kidney Walk program through participant recruitment, fundraising coaching, volunteer engagement, and team development
  • Recruit, engage, and support Kidney Walk participants, teams, volunteer leaders, committee members, and fundraising champions
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase peer-to-peer fundraising participation, team growth, donor retention, and overall event revenue
  • Manage sponsorship renewals and identify opportunities to grow corporate and community partnerships
  • Serve as a collaborative member of the development team influencing and driving relationships and best practices to accomplish market and region financial goals
  • Represent NKF at community events, networking opportunities, committee meetings, and partner engagements throughout Southern California
  • Recruit and engage event committees, volunteer leaders, and community ambassadors
  • Maintain assigned fundraising and relationship-building activity goals
  • Partner with the Development Director and market development team to support financial goals of market events, programs and prioritized initiatives
  • Track fundraising progress and support achievement of regional revenue goals
  • Development Operations & Event Support (Approximately 35%)
  • Coordinate sponsor fulfillment and stewardship activities to ensure an exceptional partner experience
  • Maintain accurate donor, sponsor, participant, and fundraising records and support development reporting, fundraising dashboards, revenue tracking, and pipeline management
  • In coordination with the National Field Operations team and regional staff, support planning, execution, and successful implementation of fundraising events and related initiatives
  • Manage timelines, project plans, follow-up activities, and communications for assigned projects, committees, sponsors, participants, and volunteers
  • Assist with onsite event execution, budget tracking, reporting, and administrative functions related to fundraising initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and operational efficiency to support fundraising growth and enhance constituent experience
  • Ensure compliance with NKF policies, including employment, risk management, event and cash handling, and financial controls
  • Demonstrate integrity, collaboration, and stewardship

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Development Manager will support fundraising growth, community engagement, and peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives across the CA, NV, OR, WA market, with a primary focus on Southern California and the regional Kidney Walk program.

A successful candidate will be responsible for developing and stewarding corporate and community partnerships, supporting peer-to-peer fundraising growth, engaging volunteers and community leaders, and driving revenue through fundraising events, sponsorships, and donor engagement.

The Development Manager serves as an important bridge between fundraising strategy, constituent engagement, and operational execution, helping drive revenue growth while ensuring successful

delivery of fundraising initiatives throughout the market. The ideal candidate is a relationship-builder with strong organizational and communication skills who enjoys engaging volunteers, participants, sponsors, and community partners while managing multiple projects and priorities. Success in this role requires initiative, attention to detail, strong follow-through, and the ability to achieve results in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS, EQUIPMENT USED AND SPECIAL INFORMATION

Dependent on the role, adjust the following accordingly: Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. Flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed. Available for overnight business travel. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be comfortable working in a variety of environments, including indoor office settings, public venues (e.g., hotels or conference centers), and outdoor event spaces. Role may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and light physical activity during events. Must be able to manage multiple priorities in high-energy environments and adapt quickly to shifting timelines or responsibilities.
