Job summary

Palm Springs Life Magazine is seeking an experienced Managing Editor to oversee production, workflow, and day-to-day operations of our editorial department. This full-time, in-office role is based in downtown Palm Springs with no remote options.

You will collaborate across editors, designers, and colleagues to keep projects on schedule from concept to publication, while ensuring high editorial standards and accurate fact-checking. Salary range is $65,000 - 68,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of professional editorial experience, preferably with a magazine, newspaper, or digital publication.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent copyediting skills with AP style knowledge.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines with high attention to detail.
• Editorial judgment and problem-solving abilities.
• Collaborative across departments.
• Comfort using emerging AI tools to improve workflows while maintaining standards.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and project management software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage editorial production schedules and deadlines across print, digital, social, video, custom publishing, and special projects.
• Anticipate scheduling conflicts and proactively resolve production challenges before deadlines.
• Lead weekly editorial meetings, monitor story progress, and follow up on assignments and deadlines.
• Coordinate workflow between editorial, design, advertising, marketing, events, production, and other departments; liaison for sponsored content and cross-department requests.
• Manage sponsored content and custom publishing projects from assignment through publication with freelancers and clients.
• Maintain editorial workflow systems and project management tools.
• Identify opportunities to improve editorial processes and efficiency.
