Job summary

AED Media is seeking an organized, collaborative Managing Editor to guide daily coverage, plan partnerships, and drive special projects. You will build editorial systems, assign and edit stories, and publish urgent daily reporting and in-depth policy analysis.

This is an experienced editorial leadership role to join a small team with outsized impact. You will work with Jessica Valenti and AED’s CEO to foster empathetic collaboration and ambitious experimentation, with a NYC-based, office-forward

Qualifications

• An obsessive curiosity about and commitment to reproductive rights and health.
• A track record of successfully building and operating editorial planning systems.
• Fluency with modern digital publishing—from newsletters to TikTok.
• A commitment to elevating marginalized voices in journalism and at work.
• Five+ years as a newsroom manager or equivalent experience.
• At least three years working with high-stakes investigative reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead newsletter editorial planning and publishing, coordinating with the team and Valenti on priorities.
• Work hands-on with writers to sharpen their writing and ensure accuracy and sourcing.
• Collaborate with AED’s community team to ensure engagement and alignment with standards across platforms.
• Represent AED with outside partners in developing and executing collaborations and live events.
• Foster a joyful, collaborative culture by coaching the team and embracing experimentation.
