Job summary

The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is seeking an Editorial Manager to oversee the quality and consistency of all HRF content. You will edit research reports, policy briefs, event programs, fundraising materials, and digital content to ensure a cohesive voice and brand standards across platforms.

The ideal candidate is a meticulous editor with strong writing and communication skills, able to tailor content for diverse audiences while maintaining HRF’s mission-driven voice.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in editorial roles in nonprofit, journalism, digital publishing, or advocacy settings.
• Exceptional editing and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail and consistency.
• Experience editing diverse content types and adapting tone for different platforms.
• Strong grasp of grammar, usage, tone, and AP Style.
• Ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging narratives.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills for multiple projects.
• Familiarity with human rights, international affairs, or related topics is advantageous.
• Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Passion for human rights and HRF’s mission.

Responsibilities

• Edit and proofread all external-facing content for clarity, tone, and accuracy.
• Oversee editorial review of research reports, policy briefs, event programs, fundraising materials, and prints.
• Draft or assemble copy for key institutional publications (Annual Report, Oslo Freedom Forum Recap).
• Edit and refine digital content including web pages, blog posts, emails, and social media.
• Collaborate with content creators to maintain a cohesive voice and messaging strategy.
• Develop and enforce HRF’s editorial style guide across formats.
• Provide feedback to staff and contributors to strengthen writing.
• Ensure materials are accessible, engaging, and aligned with HRF’s mission.
• Manage editorial workflows, timelines, and approvals for campaigns.
• Contribute to fact-checking protocols with legal, policy, and advocacy teams.
• Ensure tone and grammar align with editorial standards.
• Identify and manage external editorial providers (freelancers, editors, translators, fact-checkers).
• Collaborate with the digital team to meet SEO goals and guidelines.
