Job summary

Poultry Science Association, a nonprofit professional organization, invites applications for Managing Editor to oversee day-to-day editorial workflow for journals at PSA Headquarters in Champaign, Illinois. The role reports to the Executive Director and partners with the Senior Managing Editor and Editors in Chief.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Sciences, or related field.
• 1–3 years of experience preferred but not required.
• Strong organizational and strategic-thinking abilities.
• Excellent written and spoken communication; ethics and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with MS Office; basic tech savvy.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate incoming manuscripts for formatting and scope; assign to editors as applicable.
• Review journal timelines and editorial performance on a quarterly basis.
• Collaborate with editors to continually improve submission, review, and publication processes.
• Support section editors and reviewers; provide training when necessary.
• Coordinate editorial publications and meetings; implement strategic action.
• Enforce deadlines and assist authors, editors, reviewers in Editorial Manager.
• Maintain and grow PSA’s reviewer database in Editorial Manager.
• Liaise between journal editorial boards and publisher on submissions.
• Assist in compiling year-end Association Notes and Academy of Reviewers list.
• Attend journal-related events on PSA's behalf.
• Collaborate on special issue content with Editor in Chief and stakeholders.
• Support training and incentive programs for reviewers and leverage content for curriculum.
