Job summary

Smithsonian Enterprises in Washington, DC is seeking an Editorial Coordinator to support magazine staff with editorial and administrative duties, including contracts, invoices, and payments, and researching and writing articles for print and web.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and 1–3 years of related editing experience, strong research skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with Word, Excel, Docusign, and design tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1–3 years of related editing experience or equivalent.
  • Understanding of basic journalism practices and ethics.
  • Strong computer and online research skills; Mac experience a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Support editorial team with contracts, invoices and payments.
  • Research and write online briefs, features and short-form pieces.
  • Publish and manage content in the CMS for magazine and web.
  • Coordinate with editors, photo editors and accounting on payments.
  • Assist with production for tablet app and Apple News+, including feedback.
  • Occasionally fact-check articles and handle special assignments.
