Job summary

Howard University seeks an Executive Director of Editorial Services to lead enterprise-wide editorial strategy, content planning, and publication governance, reporting to the Vice President for Communications.

You will oversee publications from Howard Magazine to digital platforms, mentor staff, manage budgets and vendors, and collaborate across campus to elevate the university’s reputation and thought leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, English, communications, strategic communications, public relations, publications or marketing.
• Master’s degree and experience in higher education or communications preferred but not required.
• Minimum of 10 years in strategic communications, editorial writing, and editorial leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise-wide editorial strategy aligned with the university’s priorities.
• Serve as Editor-in-Chief for flagship publications, ensuring vision, standards, and governance.
• Oversee planning, publication, and governance of print and digital publications.
• Manage budgets, vendors, and production schedules; mentor editorial staff.
