Al’s Sporting Goods is looking for a proactive, detail-oriented problem solver to join our Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) team. In this role, you will help ensure orders, shipments, and invoices flow accurately and efficiently between Al’s Sporting Goods and our brand partners. You will work directly with vendors to troubleshoot issues, coordinate onboarding, and maintain compliance with our electronic transaction and shipping requirements.

The ideal candidate takes initiative, enjoys investigating problems, and follows issues through to resolution. Strong communication, organization, and critical-thinking skills are essential. Previous EDI experience is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates curiosity, accountability, and a willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor daily EDI transactions, including purchase orders, acknowledgments, advance ship notices, and invoices, to identify errors and ensure accurate processing.
• Troubleshoot transaction issues with vendors by phone and email, document findings, and follow through until resolved.
• Coordinate new vendor EDI onboarding, setup, and testing while ensuring vendors understand Al’s Sporting Goods’ shipping, labeling, and compliance requirements.
• Track vendor issues, transaction errors, and onboarding progress in Jira or other designated systems, maintaining accurate records and timely follow-up.
• Collaborate with purchasing, receiving, distribution, and accounting to resolve order, shipment, and invoice discrepancies.
• Identify recurring issues, investigate root causes, and recommend process improvements to prevent future errors.
• Provide responsive, professional support to vendors and internal team members, maintain positive working relationships, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to investigate issues and determine appropriate solutions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical or process-related issues in clear, understandable language.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify discrepancies in data, dates, codes, and documentation.
• Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, track open issues, and meet deadlines.
• A proactive, self-motivated approach to work, with the ability to take ownership of tasks and follow through without constant direction.
• Professional and patient communication skills when working with vendors, suppliers, and internal departments.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets and the ability to learn new software applications and systems.
• Willingness to learn EDI processes, vendor requirements, and electronic transaction standards.

Preferred

• Previous experience with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), particularly X12 transaction sets such as 850 (Purchase Order), 855 (Purchase Order Acknowledgment), 856 (Advance Ship Notice), and 810 (Invoice).
• Customer service or support experience involving phone and email communication.
• Experience troubleshooting issues with vendors, suppliers, or external business partners.
• Familiarity with retail operations, purchasing, inventory, receiving, shipping, or distribution.
• Experience with Jira or similar issue-tracking and project-management software.
• Exposure to SPS Commerce, GS1-128 shipping labels, or vendor compliance programs.
