Job summary

Hermann Forwarding in Houston, TX is seeking an EDI Analyst to own our electronic data interchange program from start to finish. You will set up EDI connections with customers and trading partners, map transactions, and ensure data flows between our systems and theirs.

The role involves troubleshooting failed or missing transactions, supporting IT and help desk tasks, and occasional travel to Texas facilities. Experience with ANSI X12 and at least one EDI translator is required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on EDI experience, preferably in transportation, logistics, 3PL or warehousing
• Solid working knowledge of ANSI X12 structure (ISA/GS/ST envelopes, segments, elements, loops)
• Experience onboarding trading partners and working from customer implementation guides
• Hands-on experience with at least one EDI translator or integration platform
• Understanding of communication protocols (AS2, SFTP, VAN)
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with close attention to detail
• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical people, customers included
• Familiarity with TMS/WMS platforms and XML/JSON basics (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Onboard trading partners: Lead EDI setup with new customers, from gathering requirements and reviewing implementation guides to testing and certifying the connection and taking it live
• Structure and map messages: Build and maintain maps for ANSI X12 and EDIFACT transactions
• Troubleshoot and resolve: Monitor EDI traffic, fix failed or missing transactions, resolve mapping issues
• Manage communications: Set up and maintain connections over AS2, SFTP/FTP, VAN and API
• Integrate with internal systems: Collaborate with operations, billing and IT to ensure data flows into/out of TMS/WMS/accounting
• Serve as the partner contact: Answer EDI questions, coordinate spec changes, maintain partner scorecards
• Document everything: Keep mapping specs, partner profiles, testing records and procedures
• Improve the process: Automate, reduce manual work, add monitoring and alerts

The Role:

We're looking for an EDI Analyst to own our electronic data interchange program from start to finish. You'll set up EDI connections with new customers and trading partners, map and structure the transactions, and make sure data keeps moving between our systems and theirs. When a load tender fails or a shipment status never arrives, you'll be the one who finds the cause and fixes it. As a member of the IT team, you will be the company's IT representative in Texas. You will support help desk requests and other department tasks. The role includes occasional travel to our Texas facilities outside the Houston area.

What You'll Do:

• Onboard trading partners: Lead EDI setup with new customers, from gathering requirements and reviewing implementation guides to testing and certifying the connection and taking it live.
• Structure and map messages:Build and maintain maps for ANSI X12 (and EDIFACT where needed) transactions common in transportation and warehousing, including:
  • Transportation: 204 (Load Tender), 990 (Tender Response), 214 (Shipment Status), 210 (Freight Invoice)
  • Warehousing: 940 (Warehouse Shipping Order), 945 (Shipping Advice), 943 (Stock Transfer Shipment Advice), 944 (Stock Transfer Receipt Advice), 947 (Inventory Adjustment)
  • Supporting: 997/999 (Functional Acknowledgment), 856 (ASN), 850 (PO), 810 (Invoice)
• Troubleshoot and resolve: Watch EDI traffic every day. Find and fix failed, rejected or missing transactions, work through syntax and mapping errors, and follow up on missing acknowledgments.
• Manage communications: Set up and maintain connections over AS2, SFTP/FTP, VAN and API.
• Integrate with internal systems: Work with operations, billing and IT so EDI data flows correctly into and out of our TMS, WMS and accounting systems.
• Serve as the partner contact: Answer customer EDI questions, coordinate changes to specifications, and keep trading partner scorecards in good standing.
• Document everything: Keep current mapping specs, partner profiles, testing records and troubleshooting procedures.
• Improve the process: Find ways to automate, cut down on manual work, and add monitoring and alerts.

Required:

• 2+ years of hands‑on EDI experience, preferably in transportation, logistics, 3PL or warehousing
• Solid working knowledge of ANSI X12 structure (ISA/GS/ST envelopes, segments, elements, loops)
• Experience onboarding trading partners and working from customer implementation guides
• Hands‑on experience with at least one EDI translator or integration platform (for example IBM Sterling, Cleo, TrueCommerce, SPS Commerce, OpenText, Kleinschmidt or similar)
• Understanding of communication protocols (AS2, SFTP, VAN)
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with close attention to detail
• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical people, customers included

Preferred:

• Experience with TMS and WMS platforms McLeod and Excalibur
• SQL skills for querying and validating data
• Familiarity with XML, JSON, flat files and API-based integrations
• Scripting experience (Python, PowerShell or similar)
• Knowledge of freight billing, shipment lifecycle and warehouse operations
