Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation in Bristol, TN seeks entry‑level engineers for the EDGE program to apply their civil engineering studies as a competent VDOT engineer. Development covers multiple disciplines including Location and Design, Materials, Residency Operations, Construction, Structure and Bridge, Maintenance, Environmental and Transportation Planning.

Analytical work, reporting, and cross‑functional communication are core; you will support and manage projects to meet timelines

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or ABET-accredited program.
FE exam and EIT within 12 months of employment.
Experience with roadway design and geometric design.
Strong communication and written reporting skills.
Knowledge of construction and maintenance contracts.
Ability to interpret technical data and prepare detailed reports.

Responsibilities

Analyze engineering data and prepare complete, clear reports and recommendations.
Communicate with VDOT staff, local government staff, consultants, and the public.
Assist in project management including scope, schedule, budget and status reports.
Perform field inspections and maintain project documentation.
Provide engineering support and consultation across program areas.
Manage assigned activities to meet deliverables within scope and timeline.
