Job summary

Focus School Software LLC seeks a Group Leader for the Volusia County Schools After School Program in Orange City, FL. You will support students in grades K-5, oversee activities, and collaborate with staff and volunteers after the school day ends.

Responsibilities include safety, supervision, program coordination, and effective communication with families. Training in CPR/First Aid and STAR is provided/required within the first year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with organizing activities for children (volunteer or paid).
• Current First Aid/CPR certification or complete within first year of employment.
• STAR substitute teacher training (preferred within one year of hire).

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of the program and applicable policies.
• Supervise properly and ensure safety at all times.
• Coordinate activities with volunteers and staff.
• Communicate with students, parents, and school personnel.
• Attend required staff meetings and complete in-service trainings.
• Keep the program area clean and well organized.
• Notify Site Lead when absent or needing time off.

POSITION GOAL: Enrich the educational, emotional and physical well being of students in the quality Volusia County Schools’ After School Program

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. 1. Maintain a thorough knowledge of all phases of the program and job.
2. 2. Successfully complete appropriate tasks and follow procedures and policies.
3. 3. Establish and maintain good judgment in support of the program.
4. 4. Remain in the program area during assigned hours unless specifically assigned duty elsewhere.
5. 5. Establish and maintain positive communication with students, parents, school staff and Site Lead.
6. 6. Become familiar with the program site and follow the directions for all emergency procedures: fire drills, severe weather drill, emergency evacuation procedures and others as needed.
7. 7. Successfully complete in-service and staff development sessions as required (CPR, GSM, etc. . .).
8. 8. Attend and participate in required periodic staff meetings and/or workshops
9. 9. Ensure proper supervision at all times.
10. 10. Maintain work area in a neat, clean manner conducive to constructive play appropriate to the age group.
11. 11. Coordinate activities with volunteers working with his/her group of children.
12. 12. Effectively carry out assigned group activities.
13. 13. Establish and maintain promptness and attendance.
14. 14. Notify the Site Lead and/or Principal/Administrator in a timely manner of the need to be absent. This notification may be required in writing.
15. 15. Ensure the equipment and materials are arranged, available, and maintained in good condition.
16. 16. Encourage parental involvement.
17. 17. Perform general housekeeping duties for the program as assigned.
18. 18. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Site Lead.

Required Qualifications/Certifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Hold a High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
• Experience in working effectively with and managing organized activities for children (volunteer or paid)
• Holds current certification or will successfully complete the following course during the first year of employment: First Aid/CPR
• Successful completion of the Volusia County Schools substitute teacher training course (STAR) within one (1) year of date of hire is preferred

• Willingness to help a child through the trials and errors of normal growth and development
• Ability to manage creative enrichment programs for students in grades 6-8
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form

• A basic knowledge of VCS’ discipline policy
