Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to join the team in Martinsville, IN. The role combines direct patient care with unit clerical duties under the supervision of a Clinical Nurse.

You will help maintain a safe, clean environment and assist physicians, patients, families and vendors as needed. Responsibilities include scheduling tests, updating patient records, checking in/out patients, and supporting equipment logistics.

Qualifications

• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Requires knowledge of principles of infection control.
• Requires basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Ensures a clean and orderly environment and provides information, directions and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May schedule tests and procedures, maintain patient records and sign patients in and out of the unit.
• May be responsible for ordering, receiving and delivering equipment and supplies for the patient care team.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
