Job summary

Riverside Smithfield Hospital in Smithfield, VA is seeking an Emergency Technician to support physicians and RNs in the ED. You will assist with EKGs, venipuncture, IVs, data collection, and essential patient care across age groups under supervision of the RN, Charge Nurse and ED physician.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, EMT certification (NREMT/VDHP), CPR/BLS, ACLS and PALS within 180 days.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• EMT certification and CPR/BLS are required.
• ACLS and PALS providers preferred or required within 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and RNs in the ED with invasive and non-invasive procedures.
• Collect patient data and assist with interpretation for age-specific care.
• Perform EKGs, venipuncture, IV starts, and monitor patients as needed.
• Communicate changes in patient condition to team using SBAR.
• Fill in as monitor tech when required.
• Support patient throughput and maintain a safe care environment.

Smithfield, VirginiaHiring Range$18.90 - $24.60/Hourly Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.OverviewWorks under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, and the medical direction of the Emergency Department Physician. Responsible for providing assistance to physicians and RN in the delivery of patient care to include invasive and non-invasive procedures: EKG's, IVs, phlebotomy. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age of the patient served in assigned department. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Collects data reflective of the patient's status and assist with the interpretation of appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age specific needs as described in the departmental policy and procedural guide. Emergency Technician will fill in as the monitor tech as needed.What you will doDemonstrates assessment ability by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population served. ( i.e. surgical, med surg, critical care, ED, specialty unit).Recognizes and responds to variances of patient care/ condition and appropriately notifies physician and team, utilizing SBAR process when applicable.Accurately completes all required clinical documentation consistently per RHS standards.Demonstrate flexibility and sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput throughout the facility.
