Job summary

Intermountain Health in Colorado is seeking an EMT-Basic or Paramedic to provide basic and advanced life support with efficient coordination and accurate documentation. The role requires at least 2 years of EMT/ED Tech experience and IV certification at hire.

The position will float among four Denver-area hospitals with a 10% float differential. Responsibilities include vital signs, specimen collection, catheterization, EKGs, patient transport, and unit secretary duties while maintaining

Qualifications

  • Current Basic EMT or Paramedic license in state of Colorado
  • EMTs working in an Emergency Department in the state of Colorado, national certification or state EMT license is acceptable
  • Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) Certification for Healthcare Providers upon hire
  • IV certification required upon hire. Colorado: EMT- Basic must have state approved IV certification at the time of hire. (Note: For Paramedics, AEMTs, and EMT- is, IV certification is included in licensure.)

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, and informs changes to RNs or Physicians.
  • Collects blood, urine, saliva, and stool samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Inserts Foley catheters, performs straight catheterizations, provides wound care, and fits patients for casts, hard splints, crutches, and other devices.
  • Performs 12-lead EKGs and provides instruments to doctors and nurses during procedures.
  • Assists with the safe movement of patients, applying principles of safe patient handling.
  • Assists with admitting patients into the ER, schedules patient transfers, reinforces patient education, and assists with discharge instructions.
  • Applies and checks restraints as directed by the RN or Physician.
  • Performs the duties of unit secretary, including maintaining patient charts and information, and communicating with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates infection prevention standards and adheres to infection prevention guidelines.

Job Description


This position requires at least 2 years of EMT/ED Tech experinece.


This position is responsible for providing both basic and advanced life support to patients in an efficient, knowledgeable and cost effective manner, which is accurately documented and properly coordinated with other health care personnel.


EMT- Basic must have Colorado approved IV certification at the time of hire. (Note: For Paramedics, AEMTs, and EMT- is, IV certification is included in licensure.) Please include your IV Certification at time of application.


Must be available to work variable shifts and this position requires at least 2 years of ED Tech/EMT experience.


This position will float to all four (4) hospitals in the Denver metro area listed below and are provided an additional 10% float differential.

Essential Functions


  • Obtains patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, and understands normal ranges and changes. Informs RNs or Physicians of changes in vital signs.

  • Collects blood, urine, saliva, and stool samples for laboratory analysis.

  • Inserts Foley catheters, performs straight catheterizations, provides wound care, and fits patients for casts, hard splints, crutches, and other devices.

  • Performs 12-lead EKGs and provides instruments to doctors and nurses during procedures.

  • Assists with the safe movement of patients, applying principles of safe patient handling.

  • Assists with admitting patients into the ER, schedules patient transfers, reinforces patient education, and assists with discharge instructions as given by the RN.

  • Applies and checks on restraints as directed by the RN or Physician.

  • Performs the duties of unit secretary, including maintaining patient charts, responding to phone calls, maintaining the daily assignment board, providing equipment care/cleaning, performing errands associated with patient care, and providing accurate information to the interdisciplinary team.

  • Demonstrates and adheres to the standards of infection prevention, following principles and upholding the Standards of Infection Prevention.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One (1) year of related experience


Physical Requirements


  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)

  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
