Job summary

Intermountain Healthcare is seeking a dedicated EMT/Paramedic to deliver both basic and advanced life support in a Denver Metro ED environment. You will float to four hospitals, perform vitals, EKGs, catheterizations and assist with patient movement and discharge instructions.

This role requires CO EMT/Paramedic licensure, BLS, and IV certification at hire, with a 36-hour week in a team-oriented setting across four facilities.

Qualifications

  • Current EMT or Paramedic license in Colorado is required.
  • IV certification must be obtained at hire.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers must be current at hire.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain vital signs and inform RN/Physician of changes.
  • Collect specimens for lab analysis as needed.
  • Insert Foley catheters and assist with catheterizations and wound care.
  • Perform 12-lead EKGs and assist with procedures.
  • Assist in safe movement and patient handling.

Job Description:This position is responsible for providing both basic and advanced life support to patients in an efficient, knowledgeable and cost effective manner, which is accurately documented and properly coordinated with other health care personnel.EMT- Basic must have Colorado approved IV certification at the time of hire. (Note: For Paramedics, AEMTs, and EMT- is, IV certification is included in licensure.) Please include your IV Certification at time of application.Must be available to work variable shifts.This position will float to all four (4) hospitals in the Denver metro area listed below and are provided an additional 10% float differential.Our hospitals in the Denver area include:Good Samaritan Medical Center – LafayetteLutheran Medical Center – Wheat RidgePlatte Valley Medical Center – BrightonSaint Joseph Hospital - DenverEssential FunctionsObtains patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, and understands normal ranges and changes. Informs RNs or Physicians of changes in vital signs.Collects blood, urine, saliva, and stool samples for laboratory analysis.Inserts Foley catheters, performs straight catheterizations, provides wound care, and fits patients for casts, hard splints, crutches, and other devices.Performs 12-lead EKGs and provides instruments to doctors and nurses during procedures.Assists with the safe movement of patients, applying principles of safe patient handling.Assists with admitting patients into the ER, schedules patient transfers, reinforces patient education, and assists with discharge instructions as given by the RN.Applies and checks on restraints as directed by the RN or Physician.Performs the duties of unit secretary, including maintaining patient charts, responding to phone calls, maintaining the daily assignment board, providing equipment care/cleaning, performing errands associated with patient care, and providing accurate information to the interdisciplinary team.Demonstrates and adheres to the standards of infection prevention, following principles and upholding the Standards of Infection Prevention.SkillsPatient CareLife SupportVital SignsPatient EducationSafe Patient HandlingPatient TransfersPatient InformationBlood PressureParamedic TrainingCommunicationMinimum QualificationsCurrent Basic EMT or Paramedic license in state of ColoradoEMTs working in an Emergency Department in the state of Colorado, national certification or state EMT license is acceptableBasic Life Support (BLS-HCP) Certification for Healthcare Providers upon hireIV certification required upon hire. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
